The self-proclaimed “9-Piece Anti-Orchestral Ensemble” Mount Righteous from nearby Grapevine has been nominated “Best Group” and “Best Avant-Garde/Experimental Group” in this year’s Dallas Observer Music Awards, and properly followed local electronica favorite Ishi on the Trees stage showcase Saturday night.

Ryan Thomas Becker and Grady Don Sandlin — makeup of the Denton duo RTB2 — were recently nominated for a number of local music awards by Dallas Observer. On Saturday night, they played the nominee showcase at Trees here in Dallas.

The purpose of that shoot was to give them media to promote their CD release show, which happened on June 25 at Trees here in Dallas, as well as photos for the actual CD artwork. The CD officially released June 29, 2010.

My really good friend, photographer, and Sleeperstar drummer Shaun Menary put together the artwork for the CD while we were on the road, I think, the day after the shoot. Below is the final product with some of my photos (See the full shoot here).

Ryan Rebo is a songwriter based in the beautiful town of Helena, Montana. His album “Dizzy American” has been among my favorite listens since he handed me a copy in February, and can’t wait to hear the EP, “Lonely Scientist,” which he tracked in Brooklyn last year.

Amy Seeley is a songwriter based in Portland, Oregon. Her new album, Plum Coulee, is set to release in January 2011.

I spent some time with these guys the final day of Denton’s NX35 music festival. The nephew of Flaming Lips lead singer Wayne Coyne, Dennis Coyne (shown above) and the rest of Stardeath and White Dwarfs is on tour with the Lips this spring and summer.
